A Hall Test is an in-person test conducted in a controlled environment (e.g. a room in a shopping center or a dedicated testing facility), where participants evaluate products, prototypes, packaging, scents, flavors or communication materials under standardized conditions.
At QSP, we define clear testing protocols (order, timing, conditions and stimuli) to ensure comparability and reduce bias. This technique is particularly strong when the objective is to compare alternatives quickly and objectively.
WHEN TO USE
- Product testing (sensory), packaging, naming and claims
- Comparison of different versions (A vs. B vs. C)
- When controlling the context is critical (time, stimuli, instructions)
KEY BENEFITS
- High level of control and comparability across participants
- Fast data collection (many interviews in a short period of time)
- Excellent for evaluating live or tangible stimuli
- Can be combined with questionnaires and short qualitative interviews
- Standardized protocols increase the robustness of results
